Phoenix Software unveils JES3plus® V1R1 general availability

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 -- Phoenix Software International Inc, a systems software development company has announced the general availability of JES3plus V1R1, a derivative work based on IBM’s z/OS® JES3.

This release integrates SPOOL I/O performance enhancements made available to JES3plus customers through continuous delivery earlier this year.

According to a statement, this is the first release of the JES3 technology to contain enhancements since early 2015 and coincides with z/OS 2.5, the last release of z/OS to include JES3.

“We knew early on that enhancing JES3plus to use the latest I/O techniques would be a priority,” said Chief Technology Officer at Phoenix Software International, Ed Jaffe.

“Much of the credit for the smooth rollout of this new, enhanced JES3plus release goes to our ISV partners and Early Test participants whose eager participation and incredible patience contributed greatly to this successful launch.”

JES3plus V1R1 supports two newer channel programming techniques to improve performance.

It is ACKD – channel programmes with a shortened prefix that can process an entire track instead of one record at a time; and zHPF – channel programmes that leverage the z/Architecture fibre-channel-extensions (FCX) facility to transfer the entire channel programme to the device for processing rather than having CCWs transferred as they are encountered.

Phoenix Software’s JES3plus Customer Advisory Council is actively helping to prioritise the product’s enhancement roadmap, so customers should expect to see additional enhancements delivered in 2022 via continuous delivery.

Phoenix Software has refreshed its product line this month. Product downloads are available to customers via the Phoenix Software International Support portal.

JENBACH, Austria, Sept 23 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) --
As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship, INNIO today announced the publication of its inaugural Sustainability Report, “Together for a Sustainable Future.” The theme of this report encompasses engagement of everyone -- with “together” being the key word indicating responsibility of all stakeholders in a journey to shape a sustainable future. The report highlights INNIO’s commitment to instituting a culture of transparency, providing progress updates and direction on INNIO’s global approach to sustainability covering its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance for 2020.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210922005273/en/

In continuing its sustainability journey, INNIO’s leadership and its Sustainability Review Board (SRB) laid out the company’s ESG goals and strategy which included the development and publication of its first Sustainability Report. The report details how INNIO is working responsibly to deliver communities, industry, and the public with access to sustainable, reliable, and economical power while creating and maintaining an innovative, diverse, inclusive, pleasant and safe working environment for its employees.

Further, as INNIO’s Jenbacher and Waukesha products, services and digital solutions help unlock the transition to a carbon neutral future, INNIO’s Sustainability Report provides its stakeholders with indicators on commitment and progress to reducing greenhouse emissions and initiatives around responsible resource management.

In his opening note to the Sustainability Report, INNIO president and CEO, Carlos Lange, laid out key priorities and accomplishments:

Sustainability Goals

“As we continue to implement our enterprise strategy for profitable growth, we are also underlining our commitment to climate challenges and sustainable growth. INNIO’s Sustainability Goals are related to safety, energy and emissions, water, waste, building efficiency, circular economy, jobsite efficiency and sustainability of our products, services and solutions.”

Uninterrupted Access to Products and Services

“Along with our distributors and suppliers, INNIO is working to help ensure uninterrupted access to the products and services that our global customers rely on to support society during these difficult times. The recent COVID-19 global pandemic presented new challenges around the world, and INNIO was designated by many governments as an ‘essential’ enterprise since our products, parts and services support key infrastructure in the supply of natural gas and electrical energy. Customers use our products to provide primary and standby power & heat to homes; essential facilities such as hospitals, utilities, or district heating plants; and other businesses that must continue to operate.”

Technology Leadership: Hydrogen

“In Hamburg, INNIO Jenbacher and HanseWerk Natur recently collaborated to commission the world’s first large-scale gas engine in the 1 MW range capable of running on a variety of hydrogen-natural gas mixtures or on 100% green hydrogen. It’s also the world’s first natural gas engine conversion to hydrogen in the field. Again, INNIO technology is ahead of the game, demonstrating the future-proof nature of the installed base, this time by offering the ability to convert to carbon free, 100% hydrogen capabilities.”

Digitalization

“Through digitalization, we can constantly improve our products’ design and construction in our advanced factories, flawlessly execute our services, and move beyond reactive to predictive data solutions. At our manufacturing plants, we have embraced digitalization and are continuously refining our operations, accelerating innovation and improving our customers’ experience.”

The Sustainability Report publication follows recent sustainability activities that include INNIO’s recognition by EcoVadis with a Silver business sustainability rating, and INNIO’s joining the United Nations Global Compact. Each of these efforts underscores INNIO’s holistic and structured approach to incorporating sustainability across the company, considering the environment, employee development, health and safety, diversity and inclusion, as well as corporate responsibility.

INNIO’s Sustainability Report was developed in collaboration with external ESG advisors and subject matter experts as well as internal directors from diverse backgrounds.

That’s why we took important steps in 2020 to address INNIO’s sustainability strategy, diving into the material issues we identified as the touchpoints to our customers and stakeholders. Our society faces unprecedented economic, environmental, social, and cultural challenges, and we are convinced that sustainability is the key to transforming these challenges into opportunities. Our sustainability strategy recognizes INNIO’s social and environmental responsibility. We must act now on this responsibility.

TOSHIBA RELEASES 40V/2.0A STEPPING MOTOR DRIVER WITH RESISTORLESS CURRENT SENSING

- Reduces External Components and Contributes to Space-Saving Circuit Boards

TOKYO, Sept 22 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation ("Toshiba") has added “TB67S539FTG” to its lineup of stepping motor driver IC series that support constant current control, for office automation, commercial and industrial equipment. The new driver carries out constant current motor control without a current sense resistor.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210921005534/en/

TB67S539FTG incorporates Toshiba’s latest DMOSFET device[1], which allows it to realize a motor output voltage rating of 40V and a motor output current rating of 2.0A[2]. Use of a current detector for constant current motor control eliminates the need for an external current sense resistor. The H-bridge circuit for motor control has an Nch/Nch configuration, and a built-in charge pump circuit for output stage control. In addition, the new driver does not require the external capacitor that is generally used to drive the gates on the H-bridge, because it is incorporated in the product. This helps saving the space on printed circuit boards.

TB67S539FTG supports 4.5V to 34V motor drive power supplies, and can be used for applications driven by 24V, and in applications with 12V drivers, including surveillance cameras and projectors.

TB67S539FTG adopts a compact QFN32 package to reduce heat dissipation during use. Low On-resistance (upper + lower) between the output transistor drain and source, 0.8Ω (typ.), reduces heat generation.

Notes:
[1] As of September 2021.
[2] Actual driven motor current depends on the use environment and such factors as ambient temperature and power supply voltage.

Applications
- Office automation, commercial and industrial equipment

Features
- No need for a current sense resistor
- No need for an external capacitor for the charge pump circuit
- Low power consumption in sleep mode: IM1=1μA (max) @sleep mode

AVIDBOTS® EXPANDS NEO'S CAPABILITIES WITH DISINFECTION ADD-ON FOR AUTONOMOUS SANITATION OF HIGH-TOUCH SURFACES

KITCHENER, Ontario, Sept 22 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) --
Avidbots, one of the world’s leading robotics companies, announced today the launch of its Disinfection Add-On, expanding the functionality of the company’s fully autonomous floor-scrubbing robot, Neo. With the Disinfection Add-On, customers can now autonomously disinfect high-touch, 3-D surfaces with Neo 2, in addition to floor care, delivering an even more efficient, consistent and measurable clean.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210921005105/en/

“The days of having single-purpose robots for specific tasks are behind us. A robot must be multi-functional to meet the ever-evolving needs of customers,” said Pablo Molina, CTO, VP of Product, Chairman and Co-founder, Avidbots. “With the Disinfection Add-On, our customers can disinfect surfaces for a few hundred dollars per month—this is more than 10x savings when compared to having a separate robot or human completing the same task. The Disinfection Add-On truly multiplies the value of the Neo platform. As facilities across the globe reopen and welcome back their employees, customers and visitors, Neo provides disinfection at a low cost to help our customers keep up with the new normal, creating a safe and healthy environment.”

Spraying touch surfaces with a disinfectant is widely used, but not all operators are cleaning properly or consistently. Facility managers are working hard to meet increased cleaning protocols and show proof that facilities are safe, but it can be a significant time commitment to disinfect high-touch surfaces like seating, work surfaces, garbage cans, doors and kiosks, to name a few. The Disinfection Add-On reallocates labor to value-add activities and, most importantly, creates a healthier and safer environment for customers.

“As we welcome students, faculty and staff back to campus, we are focused on ensuring the safest environment possible. Innovation is the cornerstone of the Rochester Institute of Technology, and we’re always looking for breakthrough technology that can solve our day-to-day challenges,” said Derek Sylvester, Director of Building Environmental Services at Rochester Institute of Technology. “One of the most pressing challenges is not only maintaining a clean campus, but people wanting to see what’s being done to keep them healthy. The visibility of our Neo fleet autonomously disinfecting common area touch points and cleaning floors provides peace of mind. Through Neo and its new sprayer add-on, we know with certainty that we are achieving an effective and consistent clean every time.”

The CDC recommends the daily cleaning of high-touch surfaces to sufficiently remove the virus that causes COVID-19, including the Delta variant, and help maintain a healthy facility. More frequent cleaning of surfaces is encouraged if the space is a high traffic area, which can increase the risk of infection from touching surfaces.

With the new functionality, facilities can more efficiently follow these recommendations, leveraging the latest electrostatic spraying technology and ensuring uniform 3-D coverage of surfaces. This includes hidden and indirectly sprayed ones, for the most complete coverage. Additionally, the sprayer uses less chemical solution compared to traditional methods. This proven approach ensures disinfection chemicals do not dry out in the air before reaching the target, effectively covering and ensuring proper dwell time on high-touch surfaces.

“At Avidbots, we’re creating the future today, enabling our customers to focus on what they do best today, tomorrow and for years to come,” says Faizan Sheikh, CEO, and Co-founder of Avidbots. “We’re proud to release the Disinfection Add-On, expanding our offerings, setting a more robust standard for cleaning and leveraging the significant value of robotics.”

Like Neo, the Disinfection Add-On is powered by the Avidbots AI Platform, and takes the guesswork out of disinfection while delivering full autonomy. Neo truly understands its operating environment, avoiding anyone or anything, and takes actions to maximize cleaning and disinfection productivity while minimizing human intervention. At the same time, the Avidbots Command Center provides detailed reporting and performance measurement for monitoring, managing and tracking Neo remotely and in real time.

Avidbots robotics solutions are used throughout the world in various high-traffic environments such as manufacturing, warehousing, healthcare, education, retail, airports and transit hubs. To learn more about the Disinfection Add-On or to request a demonstration, visit the Avidbots Disinfection Add-On page.

CLOUDFLARE TO SPEED UP MILLIONS OF WEBSITES, AUTOMATICALLY AND FOR FREE

New technology can help browsers make the Internet 30% faster

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 17 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the security, performance, and reliability company helping to build a better Internet, today announced it's the first to implement server support at scale for Early Hints, a new Internet standard that can help speed up websites on its network by 30% or more for free. By working with prominent browsers, Cloudflare will save Internet users time and create faster, more seamless experiences for businesses and their users.

"Everyone should have access to the fastest, most reliable Internet possible and we have built our global network to deliver exactly that," said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. "Now we're taking it a step further and working together with leading browsers like Google Chrome to speed up millions of your favorite websites and applications, completely for free.”

Today when you visit a website, browsers cannot load it for you until they receive instructions from a server about all of the different elements, like images and text, that need to be displayed. Now Cloudflare is working directly with browsers to save an extra step, and time, for websites to load. Cloudflare will provide early hints to browsers to let them know to start loading critical webpage elements before the server even completes the processing time to load the page. This reduces the time between someone typing in a website URL and that website completing loading. What’s more, Cloudflare is able to do this, without requiring any additional action from the server, due to a combination of the scale and speed of its global network and its use of machine learning.

POLYPLASTICS IDENTIFIED SOLUTIONS TO HELP PROCESSORS LIMIT GAS BURN OCCURRENCE DURING INJECTION MOLDING

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Polyplastics Co Ltd, a leading global supplier of engineering thermoplastics, has identified several solutions to help processors limit the occurrence of gas burns during the injection molding process.

According to a statement, the company used its Gas Investigation Method in Injection Molding (GIMIM) test method to analyse the phenomenon and help pose preventative measures.

Gases produced during molding have no place to escape and are compressed, thus resulting in a hot, burned resin surface which threatens continuous molding.

First, the study examined gas resulting from energy loss at the time of injection. The nozzles of typical injection machines comprise a drastically contracted structure, and energy loss arises due to the shape.

Potential solutions include lowering the injection speed, using multiple gates or cavities, and increasing the size of the gate and nozzle.

The GIMIM method also determined that vent clogging is caused by the workings of a complex relationship between the volumes of low boiling and high boiling substances, and the total volume of substances within decomposition gas.

Corrective measures include lowering cylinder temperature and using a rag or similar object to frequently wipe away mold deposits that are lightly stuck to the gas vents.

Since GIMIM can detect substances in units of ppm, it can be used to verify whether the purging process was conducted properly through only a small number of machine shots.
