GMAC releases updated Graduate Management Education Admissions Reporting Standards

KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), a global association representing leading business schools, has released an updated version of the Graduate Management Education Admissions Reporting Standards.

Led by a task force of 14 GMAC member schools, the revision aims to ensure the standards align with the shifting landscape of graduate business education and today's best practices of identifying gender, race and ethnicity, and undergraduate majors, among other criteria commonly used in the admissions process.

“This work, initiated in response to a strong desire for consistency and transparency from the business school community we serve, is being done to create trust with and among business school admissions professionals, especially those who are new to the field.

“Without a doubt, adopting the standardised reporting criteria at a large scale would allow prospective students and rankings organisations alike to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges across the wide spectrum of programme options available in the market today,” said GMAC chief executive officer, Joy Jones in a statement.

Meanwhile, GMAC vice president of school and industry engagement, Sabrina White said: “GMAC will continue to be a steward of the standards and will publish a list of schools and corresponding programmes that decide to adopt and remain in compliance with the standards.

“It is our hope that more members of the business school community, as well as ranking publishers, will begin leveraging these standards to benefit the people aspiring to better themselves and the world through graduate management education.”

According to GMAC’s annual survey on prospective students worldwide, candidates rely heavily on school websites and rankings in their programme selection process.

The 2023 survey of thousands of business school aspirants, to be published early next month, shows that school websites and published programme rankings were the top two factors in the decision making of individuals considering applying for graduate business degrees.

Informed by this finding, GMAC believes it is vitally important that the information presented to prospective students is anchored in a common definition of the terms used by schools and various publications in collecting the data for reporting.

The new global study by YouGov has revealed that a majority of 12,000 employees (91 per cent) surveyed believe they would be more productive if their information technology (IT) issues at work were resolved quickly and effectively.

Another 74 per cent say weak IT support has affected their motivation at work. Results show an efficient and effective IT support system needs to be in place to power today’s hybrid workforce.

Huawei ultra-wideband, multi-antenna technologies to drive all bands to 5G

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- Huawei will continue to innovate and help operators evolve all bands to 5G for maximised spectral efficiency as they strive to deliver more high-definition (HD) and immersive digital experiences to consumers, and accelerate the digital transformation of various industries at the All Bands to 5G Summit held during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

In his keynote speech, Huawei Wireless Product Line Vice President, Fang Xiang said ubiquitous 5G coverage and new high-value 5G services, such as HD live broadcasting, Voiceover New Radio (VoNR), eXtended Reality (XR), and cloud gaming, drive all bands to 5G.

“Huawei continues to innovate ultra-wideband, multi-antenna, green, and simplified solutions. This helps operators maximise spectral efficiency to build high-quality 5G networks that feature optimal performance, minimal energy consumption, premium experiences, and high adaptability," he said.

According to Huawei in a statement, the company has been continuously innovating ultra-wideband and multi-antenna technologies, and launched a full range of new product portfolios.

Ultra-wideband 4T4R RRU features the industry's lowest power consumption. It uses true wideband power amplifiers, real-time dynamic power sharing, and unique PIMC algorithm to enable simplified deployment of three bands.

Compared with the industry average, 4T4R RRUs are 30 per cent smaller in size and weight, 30 per cent better in performance, and 30 per cent lower in energy consumption.

Guests from GSMA Intelligence, Coleago, and Ookla pointed out that as 5G services like New Video, VoNR, and New Internet of Things (IoT) are developing rapidly, all bands must be evolved to 5G.

This will make multi-band deployment, multi-Radio Access Technology (RAT) coexistence, limited antenna space, and high network energy consumption common challenges in the industry.

Network evaluation criteria need to be extended from just downlink speed to coverage, latency, and uplink experience, to ensure service experiences for UHD video, cloud gaming,5GtoB, and 5G IoT.
