Netpoleon Publishes The Report For Business Email Compromise (BEC)

- How does it attack your business and how can you prevent it? -

SINGAPORE, Nov 25 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) --
Netpoleon Solutions Pte Ltd (hereinafter: Netpoleon), a leading provider of integrated security, networking solutions and value added services, publishes the report “Business Email Compromise (BEC): How does it attack your business and how can you prevent it?”. The report was written by Macnica Networks Corp. (hereinafter: Macnica Networks) that is the parent company of Netpoleon and analyzes threats targeting Asia’s organizations and provides security solutions in Japan.

This report summarizes the reality of fraud, the flow from careful preparation to transfer to the account prepared by the attacker, the measures that we believe have a certain effect at this point in the system and accounting departments and the incident response required when faced with BEC. It is the result of an analysis based on many emails obtained by Macnica Networks.

Macnica Networks has analyzed not only BEC email received by group affiliates of Macnica Group from 2015 to 2019, but also BEC email received by trading partners purporting to be from Macnica Group, as well as BEC cases handled through the incident response service provided by Macnica Networks and has exposed the methods used by attackers. Furthermore, with the cooperation of Itochu’s ITCCERT, which has provided analysis results regarding the daily BEC attacks on the Itochu Group, as it continues to expand around the world, we have now been able to shed even more light on the methods and identities of attackers.

We should pay more attention to BEC. According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), within a period of less than five years from October 2013 to May 2018 the number of reported cases of business e-mail compromise (BEC) was a little less than 80,000, and the total cost of damages came to approximately 12.5 billion USD (approximately 1.4 trillion yen).

[Examples]
  • Pretending to be the CEO of a trading partner
The e-mail address of the sender has a domain name unrelated to the trading partner, which makes this fraud relatively easy to spot. However, because the e-mail purports to be an urgent request from the CEO of a trading partner, the thought of not wanting to be seen as rude by showing suspicion creates a situation in which it is hard to reject the request.
  • Registration of similar domains
The attacker had acquired a domain very similar to the actual domain of Netpoleon and was using that to make a BEC attack on the client. Fortunately, the client realized there was something suspicious about the domain name, and the attack was thwarted.

Netpoleon will endeavor to contribute to cyber security measures by investigating, analyzing, and disclosing information on attacks.

WORLDREMIT AND DIGICEL INTERNATIONAL PARTNER TO ENABLE MOBILE WALLET TRANSFERS IN PACIFIC ISLANDS

Customers can send to mobile wallet accounts in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga

SYDNEY, Nov 25 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE)  -- WorldRemit, a leading global digital payments provider and Digicel International, have partnered to enable international money transfers to mobile wallets for customers in Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga.

Globally, customers can now make international transfers via digicelinternational.com to Digicel MyCash mobile wallet accounts in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. Money is received by the recipient securely into their mobile wallet within minutes, and is ready to spend on what they need by making purchases or transferring money straight from their MyCash wallet.

Digicel International is a digital one-stop-shop providing a suite of services, which enable transactions for people to support their loved ones, bringing them together from all corners of the world shortening the distance between them. This new website and app enables Top Up, Send Money, Bill Pay, and other transactions under one single platform. When customers visit digicelinternational.com, they will be able to send money directly to MyCash wallets, an important feature of the digital ecosystem in the Pacific Islands.

Scott Eddington, WorldRemit’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, said: “We are proud of our history of helping customers send money back home to friends and family in the Pacific Islands, and this new partnership with Digicel will strengthen our offering and give even more choice to consumers. It couldn’t come at a better time – travel restrictions continue to impact on tourism and the movement of seasonal workers, and COVID-19 has created a step-change shift in consumer behaviour towards digital options such as mobile wallets.”

“Longer term, partnerships like this help us to reduce the costs of remittances to the Pacific, putting more money in the pockets of loved ones back home. It also helps to support our financial inclusion goals, ensuring funds can flow to recipients even where they do not have a traditional banking relationship,” Mr. Eddington said.

Pacific Island countries rely heavily on remittances for basic living expenses, with remittances to Tonga representing around 40 percent of the country’s GDP – the highest proportion in the world according to the World Bank.

According to the International Organization of Migration (IOM)*, there has been a significant shift to digital remittances in the Pacific Islands as lockdown measures in both sending and receiving countries have made it more difficult to send and receive cash remittances.

Taiwan-made bicycle spins wheel of fortune over global demand

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 -- Bicycle manufacturing has long been Taiwan's standout industry, having earned the reputation as ‘The Bicycle Kingdom’ with nearly 70 per cent of the global mid-to-high-end bicycle demand fulfilled by Taiwan yearly.

Annually, Taiwan exports over two million traditional bicycles globally. Road bike exports have comprised a stable 20-30  per cent in the past few years, while mountain bikes now take up 60 per cent of the exports to the United States as mainstream demand is on the rise.

In contrast, due to the increasing popularity of various high-profile cycling events and of leisure riding recently, the demand for road bikes in the European market is almost equivalent to that of mountain bikes, and the Asian market also shows a similar rising trend year by year.

Giant and Merida, the two major bicycle companies in Taiwan, have become leading brands in the world, and their road bikes are often selected by professional cyclists and their teams for competitions.

Besides the two leading brands, other rising Taiwanese brands such as DIZO, BESV, and VOLANDO also hold prominent places in the road bike industry, according to a statement.

DIZO derives its name from the Taiwanese homophony ‘customised’, indicating that its products are made in Taiwan and tailored to customer needs, featuring unique and bespoke designs.

Although BESV and VOLANDO Innovation joined the industry later, they still have been able to quickly make their bikes by leveraging the groups' inherent competitive advantages based on high-end golf heads and electronic control system development.

Also, the road bikes, specifically electric road bikes, from both companies have won the coveted Taiwan Excellence Award.

AKWEL reports upturn in activity for Q3 2020

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 -- AKWEL, an automotive and HGV equipment and systems manufacturer, has reported consolidated turnover of €649.1 million for the first nine months of 2020, limiting the decline to -21.4 per cent  from the same period last year. (€1 = RM4.88)

The upturn in AKWEL’s activity was confirmed in September, generating turnover growth of 0.9 per cent in the third quarter of 2020 (+6.7 per cent comparing like-for-like figures), and continued to outperform global automotive production.

The main performance factors were the continued positive impact of the Opel/PSA merger, which expanded the customer scope; a high level of aftermarket activity on SCR tanks; and, the ramp-up of activities in China.

According to a statement, the net cash continued to increase in the third quarter, totalling €42.2 million (excluding IFRS 16 impact) at the end of September 2020.

The signs of recovery seen in the third quarter must be tempered in a context of new restrictions associated with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in Europe and the United States.

AKWEL continues to operate in a low-visibility market by relying on the flexibility and effectiveness of its business model and prioritising investments to support market trends, particularly in clean vehicles.

Graforce, Berlin Hotel unveil negative emissions technology

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 -- The Mercure Hotel MOA Berlin is set to become the first hotel and event location worldwide with a negative CO₂ balance when generating heat.

This is due to Graforce-developed methane plasmalysis technology, whereby the MOA Berlin will not only generate its heat without any emissions. It will also be able to extract CO₂ from the atmosphere – while heating.

According to a statement, the MOA Berlin is no longer heating with natural gas but with hydrogen from biogas as the methane plasmalysis technology splits the biogas into hydrogen and solid carbon.

Using electricity from renewable energies, methane plasmalysis is just as climate-friendly as electrolysis – but the costs are significantly lower.

For the zero-emission heating process, the MOA Berlin uses modified gas condensing boilers fuelled by a mixture of green hydrogen and biogas. The mixing ratio is controlled by the methane plasmalyser.

The solid carbon can be used as an industrial raw material, for paints and ceramics or, as in the case of the MOA Berlin, for producing asphalt.

Thus, Graforce offers the worldwide first market-ready technology for CO₂ reduction and a green alternative to the controversial CCS storage.

The German company Graforce has developed new plasma applications for inexpensively producing green hydrogen and other valuable industrial gases from residual materials. Details at www.graforce.com/EN.

B-school demand increases amid COVID-19 - GMAC

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 -- The Graduate Management Admission Council™ (GMAC™), a global association of leading graduate business schools, has released its annual 2020 Application Trends Survey.

“The opportunity cost of leaving a job to pursue an MBA or business master’s lessens as economies begin to regress, as a result we are now seeing more people thinking about b-school to grow or improve their career prospects,” said GMAC President and Chief Executive Officer Sangeet Chowfla.

GMAC delayed the release of this year’s report, initially scheduled for publication in mid-October, to further gauge the impact of COVID-19 on application trends in regions worldwide, according to a statement.

New research shows applications to graduate business school programmes are up, with variations in growth rates by region and programme due to online learning, travel, and visa concerns.

As institutions adopted a range of admission policies to aid candidates amid COVID-19, the report, known for assessing growth trends with an emphasis on the flow of international students crossing borders, highlights shifts in enrollment trends across Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe and the United States.

Overall, 67 per cent of the more than 1,000 programmes participating in this year’s survey report an increase in application volume. This includes 66 per cent of MBA programmes and 67 per cent of business master’s programmes.

Recent GMAC Application Trends reports have noted the disparity in application growth rates across competing regions.

This year, growth is present in some form across nearly all geographies and programme types, but this increased demand is realised in a context of increased deferments due to concerns about online learning, travel, and the ability to secure visas.

The transaction is the result of a strategic process to enable accelerated growth for RegTech as a software company with specialised professional and managed services along the regulatory value chain.

With Nordic Capital as the new owner, the RegTech business will boost its leading market position and push ahead with international expansion against the backdrop of regulatory harmonisation.

BearingPoint will continue to serve as a strategic consulting partner and retain a minority stake in RegTech.

The current RegTech management team will remain and work in close partnership with Nordic Capital. RegTech’s customers will not be impacted by the transaction.

The closing of the transaction with Nordic Capital is subject to customary regulatory approvals.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The entire transaction has been managed by the M&A practice in BearingPoint’s Capital unit.

WORLD FIRST CRYPTO CURRENCY TRADED WITH FIXED PRICE

SINGAPORE, Nov 3 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Around June 2020, Easybook had launched its cryptocurrency, Easybook Coin (EBO) from Brunei to the online customers in ASEAN. Within 3 months, nearly half a million USD worth of EBO coins was sold. EBO is being traded in its trading platform i.e. https://ebo.easybook.com and is usable in Easybook.com, the largest land and sea ticketing platform in ASEAN, focusing on the long-distance express bus, ferry, and train tickets. (company travel website: https://www.easybook.com )

It is the first in the market to have a fixed-trading price cryptocurrency by marking the trading price to appreciate gradually to hit 2x in value by end of the first year, and 4x in value by end of 2nd year. The price of the EBO will fluctuate from the 3rd year onward. The intention of marking the price is to protect all the customers/purchasers from monetary losses after acquiring EBO. Despite trading, the EBO coins can be used to purchase any ticket from Easybook.com. Start from the 3rd year, EBO will be listed across to other trading platforms.

CHRISTIE INTRODUCES GROUNDBREAKING FAR-UVC LIGHT FIXTURE WITH PATENTED CARE222 TECHNOLOGY FOR UV DISINFECTION THAT MAY BE USED AROUND PEOPLE

Christie CounterAct aims to reduce pathogens in commercial indoor venues

CYPRESS, Calif., Oct 30 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Christie® is pleased to announce the launch of the Christie® CounterAct™ line of commercial UV disinfection products with patented Care222® far-UVC light technology for cinemas, theme parks, museums, sports complexes and other indoor spaces. Unlike comparable products, the Christie fixture uses Ushio’s patented narrowband filtered Care222 excimer lamps that emit far-UVC 222nm light - the only UV technology shown to continuously and significantly reduce pathogens, like coronaviruses, that may also be used while people are present, when used in accordance with specified parameters. Mass production of the new Christie CounterAct fixture starts in January 2021.

Developed by Christie’s parent company, Ushio Inc., based on technology licensed from Columbia University, the revolutionary Care222 far-UVC, mercury-free excimer lamp—highlighted in FORTUNE magazine’s annual Change the World list1 in 2020, includes a proprietary short pass filter that prevents the emission of longer wavelengths of UV light (230nm and higher) that are capable of penetrating human skin and eyes, an especially important feature that other 222nm and far-UVC products do not have.

NIPPON EXPRESS LAUNCHES "NEX-SPEED SUPER-FAST! ATLANTA" HIGH-SPEED CONSOLIDATED AIR CARGO SERVICE TO U.S. SOUTHEAST

TOKYO, Nov. 2, 2020 /Kyodo JBN-AsiaNet/ --

On Tuesday, October 13, Nippon Express Co., Ltd. launched its "NEX-SPEED Super-Fast! Atlanta" high-speed consolidated service for air cargo being shipped out of Haneda Airport in Japan to the southeastern U.S. via Atlanta Airport.

"NEX-SPEED Super-Fast! Atlanta" achieves the fastest shipping time available by loading cargo conveyed to Haneda Airport in the morning onto a direct flight bound for Atlanta that same day; once the cargo arrives at Atlanta Airport, the Atlanta Branch of Nippon Express USA, Inc., promptly takes receipt of the cargo from the airline's terminal.

Nippon Express is the only forwarder with a work facility handling both domestic and international cargo inside Haneda Airport, allowing it to sort cargo arriving on domestic flights within the airport and then load the cargo aboard international flights. The company has its own facility (CFS) in close proximity to Atlanta Airport, and this, combined with the (optional) emergency delivery service offered by the Atlanta Branch, enables same-day delivery. With operations at both the departure and arrival points being handled in-house, lead time is about a day and a half less than that of Nippon Express' conventional services.
