Roaming Fraud Losses Reach US$8 Bln By 2028 - Juniper Research

Source: Juniper Research

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- A new study from Juniper Research has found losses from global roaming fraud are anticipated to exceed US$8 billion by 2028, driven by the increase in bilateral roaming agreements for data-intensive use cases over 5G networks. (US$1=RM4.65)

In turn, it predicts fraudulent data traffic will account for 80 per cent of global operator roaming-based losses by 2024, according to Juniper Research in a statement.

As 2G and 3G networks are sunsetting, operators are accelerating the transition to 5G and VoLTE roaming services to leverage the high levels of virtualisation and lower operational costs.

However, the highly virtualised nature of 5G networks is creating more opportunities for fraudsters to deploy their attacks; leaving operator networks open to emerging fraud tactics over 5G networks.

As bilateral 5G roaming agreements proliferate, the research predicts operators will deploy more sophisticated fraud mitigation tools.

The greater amount of data that 5G roaming connections generate will require the development of solutions that can detect fraudulent users and traffic over new 5G networks as they evolve.

An example is the rise in 5G subscription fraud, whereby fraudsters create new subscriptions with false information; incurring roaming charges without intending to pay. Until the subscription is cancelled, fraudsters will continue anonymously using 5G roaming data, with operators losing potential roaming revenue.

Fraud mitigation services will alert operators of any potentially fraudulent activity across 5G networks in real‑time and enable them to identify and block suspicious roaming subscribers, enabling operators to minimise fraudulent activity; reducing the impact on their roaming revenue.

Toshiba Automotive 40v N-channel Power Mosfets Dissipate High Heat, Reduce Equipment Size

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation (Toshiba) has launched two automotive 40V N-channel power MOSFETs, “XPJR6604PB” and “XPJ1R004PB”, that use Toshiba’s new Small Transistor Outline Gull-wing Leads (S-TOGL) package with U-MOS IX-H process chips.

According to a statement, safety-critical applications like autonomous driving systems ensure reliability through redundant design, with the result that they integrate more devices and require more mounting space than standard systems.

Accordingly, advancing size reductions in automotive equipment requires power MOSFETs that can be mounted at high current densities.

Toshiba’s new S-TOGL package (7.0mm×8.44mm) features a post-less structure unifying the source connective part and outer leads, with a multi-pin structure for the source leads that decreases package resistance.

The combination of the S-TOGL package and Toshiba's U-MOS IX-H process achieve a significant On-resistance reduction of 11 per cent against Toshiba's TO-220SM (W) package product, which has the same thermal resistance characteristics.

The new package also cuts the required mounting area by approximately 55 per cent against the TO-220SM(W) package.

Overall, the S-TOGL package realises high-density and compact layouts, reduces the size of automotive equipment and contributes to high heat dissipation as well as uses gull-wing leads that reduce mounting stress, improving the reliability of the solder joint.

Toshiba will continue to expand its product line-up of power semiconductor products and contribute to the realisation of carbon neutrality with more user-friendly, high-performance power devices.

COLLABORATION EXTENDED FOR A GREATER SCOPE OF SOLUTIONS IN AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Black & Veatch announced it will expand collaboration with Beca to deliver a greater breadth of sustainability and decarbonisation solutions in Australia and New Zealand.

According to Black & Veatch in a statement, the expanded agreement responds to a growing demand for infrastructure solutions that adapt to and mitigate against the impacts of climate change.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covers collaboration on engineering and construction projects across areas including water and wastewater; renewable energy; hydrogen and ammonia production and export; as well as mining and metal processing.

“Australia and New Zealand enjoy abundant energy transformation opportunities, and well-planned investments in sustainable infrastructure can have significant environmental and economic impacts.

“Combining our global experience with Beca's strong local presence and experience in the Australasia region, we look forward to accelerating this journey and taking on technically challenging engineering projects to realise the region's decarbonisation ambitions and modernise its infrastructure,” said Black & Veatch President, Asia Pacific and India, Narsingh Chaudhary.

Meanwhile, Beca Group Director - Utilities, Clive Rundle said: “The expansion of our partnership with Black & Veatch beyond the water sector is a natural progression that provides clients across Australia and New Zealand with unique globally informed experiences needed to solve the challenges they are facing now and in the future.”

The extended MoU aligns with the commitments of Australia and New Zealand to hasten their energy transformation by navigating the opportunities and difficulties that the transition to net zero will provide for both countries' economies and identifying potential areas of cooperation.

A strong shared culture is behind the success of the Beca and Black & Veatch collaboration as both companies are employee-owned, a business model that has been delivering success for more than a century for each organisation.
