Icomera Unveils X7 Mobile Connectivity & Applications Router

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Icomera, a wholly owned subsidiary of Equans and the provider of integrated connectivity solutions for public transport, has launched its new X7 router.

The new router is a gateway to a powerful centralised connectivity platform, supporting multiple, resource-intensive applications including Passenger Wi-Fi, Onboard Infotainment, and Digital Video Surveillance & Analytics.

Icomera Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder, Mats Karlsson said one or multiple X7 units can be installed on a single vehicle or train consist.

“By distributing network traffic between two routers, load balancing helps ensure optimised performance, while redundancy adds further resiliency to an onboard connectivity solution,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, its Chief Commercial Officer, Roger Matthews said: “The X7 delivers exceptional speed, storage and performance for both operational and passenger-focused services, ushering in a new era of cutting-edge connected applications.”

The X7 utilises SureWAN, Icomera’s industry-leading connectivity technology protocol for intelligently aggregating multiple communication technologies include 5G, 4G, satellite and trackside networks, in parallel, to ensure the fastest, most reliable connection available to a moving vehicle.

The router will be available in various models at launch, each optimised to meet specific business requirements for digital video surveillance deployments; operating as an access point to provide high-quality passenger Wi-Fi; and contains up to five 5G modems for industry-leading connectivity.

By leveraging the increased throughput and reduced latency that Wi-Fi 7 offers, the new access point will facilitate faster and more reliable web browsing, streaming, downloads, and video conferencing for passengers, allowing them to stay connected more effortlessly while travelling.

CLOUDFLARE LAUNCHES THE MOST COMPLETE PLATFORM TO DEPLOY FAST, SECURE, COMPLIANT AI INFERENCE AT SCALE

Introduces Workers AI for end-to-end infrastructure needed to scale and deploy AI models efficiently and affordably for the next era of AI applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 29 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the leading connectivity cloud company, today announced that developers can now build full-stack AI applications on Cloudflare’s network. Cloudflare’s developer platform will provide the best end-to-end experience for developers building AI applications, enabling fast and affordable inference without the need to manage infrastructure. As every business, from startups to enterprises, looks to augment their services with artificial intelligence, Cloudflare’s platform is empowering developers with the velocity to ship a production-ready application quickly, with security, compliance, and speed built in.

Business leaders – from Fortune 1000 companies looking to augment their services with AI, to AI startups on a mission to build the next culture-defining application – want to ship production-scale AI-powered applications. Organizations are trying to move quickly to realize value fast. However, they face challenges like rapidly ballooning and opaque costs to deploy AI and ensuring customer data remains private and in compliance with regulations. Developers are facing a slew of new vendors, requiring them to understand new tools quickly and connect many complex, disparate services together. C-level business leaders are looking to optimize costs amid expensive technology, tools, and staffing.

“Cloudflare has all the infrastructure developers need to build scalable AI-powered applications, and can now provide AI inference as close to the user as possible. We’re investing to make it easy for every developer to have access to powerful, affordable tools to build the future,” said Matthew Prince, CEO and co-founder, Cloudflare. “Workers AI will empower developers to build production-ready AI experiences efficiently and affordably, and in days, instead of what typically takes entire teams weeks or even months.”

“As enterprises look to maximize their operational velocity, more and more of them are turning to artificial intelligence,” said Stephen O'Grady, Principal Analyst with RedMonk. “But it's critical to deliver a quality developer experience around AI, with abstractions to simplify the interfaces and controls to monitor costs. This is precisely what Cloudflare has optimized its Workers platform for.”

“Garmin is alongside our users for all their runs, workouts, and outdoor adventures, and we want to ensure that our watches and devices' power can last weeks and months instead of hours or days,” said Aaron Dearinger, Edge Architect, Garmin International. “We're excited for Cloudflare's innovations to ensure AI is performant, fast, close to users, and importantly privacy-first. This holds a lot of potential to us as we aim to bring more advanced fitness, wellness, and adventure insights to our users as they explore.”

Introducing Workers AI: Industry’s First Serverless AI at Scale

Today, Workers AI is delivering a simple, affordable way for developers to run AI models on Cloudflare’s global network. Through significant partnerships, Cloudflare will now provide access to GPUs running on Cloudflare’s massive global network to ensure AI inference can happen close to users for a low-latency end-user experience. When combined with our Data Localization Suite to help control where data is inspected, Workers AI will also help customers anticipate potential compliance and regulatory requirements that are likely to arise as governments create policies around AI use. Cloudflare’s privacy-first approach to application development can help companies keep their promises to their customers by ensuring data used for inference is not used for training LLMs. Cloudflare currently supports a model catalog to help developers get started quickly, with use cases including LLM, speech to text, image classification, sentiment analysis and more.

Introducing Vectorize: A Vector Database That Speeds Up Your AI Workflows

Cloudflare’s new vector database, Vectorize, enables developers to build full-stack AI applications entirely on Cloudflare: from generating your embeddings with the built-in models in Workers AI and indexing them in Vectorize, to querying them and storing source data in R2. With Workers AI and Vectorize, developers no longer have to glue multiple pieces together to empower their apps with AI and machine learning – they can do it all on one platform.

Vectorize also benefits from Cloudflare’s global network, allowing vector queries to happen closer to users, reducing latency and overall inference time. It also integrates with the wider AI ecosystem, allowing developers to store embeddings generated with OpenAI and Cohere, so that teams can bring embeddings they already have and still benefit from Vectorize when it comes to scaling AI-apps to production.

Introducing AI Gateway: Observability and Scale for AI

Today, Cloudflare is introducing AI Gateway to make AI applications more reliable, observable, and scalable. According to the latest forecasts from IDC, AI spending is expected to balloon to $154 billion this year and increase to more than $300 billion in 2026. However, developers, and C-suite leaders have no way of understanding how money is being spent across AI infrastructure, or how many and from where queries are happening.

Developers should be able to focus on what they’re building, not the infrastructure, scaling, costs, or observability pieces behind it. AI Gateway will give developers observability features to understand AI traffic like the number of requests, number of users, cost of running the app, and duration of requests. Additionally, developers can manage costs with caching and rate limiting. With caching, customers will be able to cache answers across repeated questions, reducing the need to constantly make multiple calls to expensive APIs. Rate limiting will help to manage the malicious actors and heavy traffic in order to manage growth and costs, giving developers more control over how they scale their applications.

ANGLICARESA CREATES FOUNDATION FOR PERSONALISED SERVICES WITH BOOMI

  • South Australian not-for-profit reduces integration times by 30 per cent with Boomi’s award-winning integration platform. Boomi replaces Microsoft Azure Integration Services as AnglicareSA works towards single customer view across 62,500 constituents
  • AnglicareSA joins approximately 20,000 organisations around the world in selecting Boomi’s category-leading integration platform as a service (iPaaS) for better business outcomes
SYDNEY, Sept 29 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- Boomi™, the intelligent connectivity and automation leader, today announced not-for-profit (NFP) AnglicareSA has chosen the Boomi Platform to pave the way to improve personalised services by centralising its data to better understand the needs of the 62,500 constituents it supports.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here:
https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20230918877272/en/

AnglicareSA has provided a diverse range of programs – including housing, National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) services, Aboriginal services, aged care, foster care, emergency assistance, and financial counselling – to South Australians for more than 150 years. This required managing and running dozens of systems and applications, with disconnected data across cloud and on-premises environments. After evaluating several options, AnglicareSA selected the Boomi Platform to integrate its technology investments and ensure information is available to its 1,800 employees and volunteers when they need it.

“Delivering diverse services requires us to have diverse systems – systems that weren’t designed to communicate with one another. This left us with data inconsistencies and made it difficult to understand the constituents who rely on us,” said Brett Rowe, Manager for Application Support at AnglicareSA. “Boomi serves as the stable foundation we need to ensure reliable system integration so we can continue to improve our services, and tailor them around the unique needs of South Australians.”

AnglicareSA uses Boomi’s integration platform as a service (iPaaS) to connect business-critical applications, including TechnologyOne enterprise resource planning (ERP), Salesforce Lumary, Rapid Global workforce management software, ELMO’s human resources (HR) software, and Microsoft ActiveDirectory and SQL databases. Having upskilled through Boomi’s training program, AnglicareSA’s application team developed and now manages integrations internally, which has generated significant cost savings.

AnglicareSA selected Boomi to replace Microsoft Azure integration services, and in the process eliminated complex point-to-point integrations, which were proving difficult to maintain and support.

“The low-code architecture of the Boomi Platform has made integration at least 30 per cent faster and will allow us to quickly and easily scale our integration capabilities as more cloud applications enter the business,” said Rowe. “Some projects that previously took more than a month are now completed in one week.”

“Additionally, the maturity of the Boomi Platform gives us richer capabilities, and handling integrations internally means funds that would previously have been spent on support can be reinjected into our community services. Since we introduced Boomi in early 2023, we are more agile, responding to requests from the business and employees rapidly, sparing the team from manual data entry and resolving complex integration issues,” added Rowe.

“In a sector where every detail matters, care programs’ staff need to trust that the digital systems underpinning their businesses can accurately serve rich information,” said Nathan Gower, Director, Australia and New Zealand at Boomi. “Switching to Boomi has helped AnglicareSA better understand the needs of its constituents and afforded its IT team the ability to move fast and leave complex integration behind.”

GLOBAL FISHING WATCH SEALS DEAL WITH PALAU TO ENHANCE TRANSPARENCY IN FISHERIES SECTOR

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Global Fishing Watch has entered into a new partnership with Palau aiming to strengthen sustainable fisheries management and promote transparency as a principle of ocean governance.

The agreement, which was signed between Global Fishing Watch and Palau’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, establishes a collaborative framework for publicly sharing the country’s vessel tracking data, which is aggregated and shared through the Fisheries Information Management System.

The memorandum of understanding also reinforces the two parties’ commitment to the development of robust ocean governance policies, a longstanding priority for the Pacific island nation.

“This partnership underscores our mutual commitment to combatting illegal fishing while also signalling transparency as a powerful tool in driving responsible fishing practices,” said Global Fishing Watch chief executive officer, Tony Long in a statement.

Meanwhile, Palau Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment, Steven Victor said: “By making our vessel tracking data publicly available on the Global Fishing Watch map, we hope to increase transparency and accountability of fishing activities in our waters. This can drive sustainability of our resources and contribute to reducing illegal activities in our ocean.”

Announced at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the partnership marks a cooperative effort that will enable joint work and demonstrate the various ways the fisheries sector can embrace open data to enhance management decisions and increase transparency across the seafood supply chain.

Under this partnership, Global Fishing Watch will provide analytical support based on the examination of vessel behaviours, fleet patterns, and trends associated with port inspections, licensing and enforcement efforts.

This information exchange can help inform the country’s ongoing development of its national fisheries policy and marine spatial plans, and will also strengthen its regional and international influence in support of ocean governance initiatives.

Palau joins Papua New Guinea and the Republic of the Marshall Islands who have committed to making their vessel tracking data publicly available via Global Fishing Watch’s map.

Global Fishing Watch is an international nonprofit organisation dedicated to advancing ocean governance through increased transparency of human activity at sea.

STRENGTHENING RANSOMWARE DEFENSE - THE CRITICAL ROLE OF BACKUP SOLUTIONS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- Cybersecurity attacks have become a significant concern for organizations in recent years, with security defense ranking among the top operational priorities for the future. Synology provides innovative solutions to support organizations to secure valuable data against increasingly sophisticated threats and ease workflow.

Numerous compliance regulations and government institutions require companies to implement effective countermeasures against ransomware threats in today's landscape. The need for robust ransomware defense has become an urgent task for organizations worldwide.

Many companies focus only on purchasing antivirus software or believe deploying failover mechanisms is sufficient. Unfortunately, these defense strategies often fail to protect data from encryption and ransom after an actual cybersecurity attack occurs. This means that organizations have generally overlooked another critical aspect: Backup.

At Synology, we bring enhanced and comprehensive security and backup solutions, allowing you to adapt more quickly in critical situations. When data is lost following malicious deletion or modification, backups allow you to restore mission-critical data and avoid costly downtime. Synology’s data protection solutions design a backup strategy for your entire IT infrastructure.

According to a survey conducted by IDC, more than 80% of companies suffer data loss following an attack, and about 60% of respondents stated that this data loss is irrecoverable. In other words, the most severe consequence of ransomware is the inability of businesses to retrieve essential operational or confidential data. Therefore, companies must develop a correct understanding that while antivirus software and failover mechanisms are indeed effective, they address different problems and excel in different areas, leaving a gap in the face of ransomware and cybersecurity attacks.

Synology makes security our top priority with a dedicated Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) to fix critical vulnerabilities within 24 hours, outpacing the industry average of 60 days.  Synology designed a four-phase software development process (Design, Development, Verification, Release) to ensure product safety and quick response to zero-day attacks.

Antivirus software is often the first line of defense for many companies due to its convenience and ease of implementation. However, according to statistics from the independent IT security organization AV-TEST, there are over 450,000 new malicious or harmful programs emerging every day. When employees fail to develop habits of regularly updating software versions and virus definitions, they may struggle to keep up with the evolution of ransomware, rendering their defenses inadequate. Even with updates, there is no guarantee that hackers or malicious organizations won't bypass or break through the antivirus software. This means that critical data remains vulnerable, and once it is encrypted, there may be no other means of recovery. While antivirus software can effectively reduce the probability of an attack, it does not possess the ability to recover from ransomware.

Misunderstandings also frequently arise when equating backup with failover. For instance, in the case of High Availability (HA), which operates by setting up active and passive servers, the data from the active server is continuously synchronized with the passive server. When the active server encounters issues or stops operating due to external factors, the passive server takes over to ensure uninterrupted operations. However, during a ransomware attack, the synchronization process lacks exclusivity, and encrypted files are still transmitted to the passive server. This means that business operations will be interrupted, and the data will be lost.

Active collaboration between Synology’s security team and product development team enables us to fix security vulnerabilities quickly and efficiently. With frequent engagement with top hackers to enhance security products and as a member of the highly respected Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) we are at the forefront of the international cybersecurity community. By partnering with other leading organizations and staying up-to-date on the latest security advancements, we at Synology are able to respond to security incidents with unparalleled effectiveness.

Organizations that implement modern backup systems and prioritize disaster recovery have the ability to perform fast full-machine backups and eliminate duplicate data. By establishing backup versions that can be traced back to different points in time, these organizations can restore specific files from any desired time, mount backups on virtual machines as needed, quickly restart relevant services, minimize downtime, and preserve valuable data.

By adopting such practices companies can truly overcome the negative impact of ransomware, ensuring data security, continuity, and resilience.

From design to release, coding to testing, Synology is fully committed to integrating security into every step of our product development process to safeguard your data.

Smart Code and Ethics & Compliance Culture Assessment Now Available within Market-Leading Catalyst Platform

NEW YORK, Sept 13 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- LRN Corporation, the leader in ethics and compliance solutions that enable organizations to inspire principled performance, has today launched two new solutions – Smart Code and Ethics & Compliance Culture Assessment – that significantly enhance the ability of businesses around the globe to assess their culture and the usability of their code of conduct.

Smart Code is designed to bring an organization’s code of conduct to life, going far beyond traditional formats. Smart Code makes it easier for employees to engage with their organization’s code of conduct through a web-based microsite that is intuitive to use, centrally located and WCAG 2.1 accessible.

For employers, powerful new Smart Code analytics provide rich data and insights, such as information on user visits, page interaction, and search terms. Using this data, businesses can now spot and better interpret what employees are prioritizing, allowing teams to understand gaps in their code of conduct and identify risk hotspots. They can now easily benchmark their code against other companies as well as best practices and regulatory expectations, thanks to LRN’s market-leading dataset.

In addition, LRN’s new Ethics & Compliance Culture Assessment provides an ongoing 360-degree snapshot of a company’s ethical culture, an important tool in the context of the DOJ’s tightening of corporate compliance guidelines and increased focus on holding companies – and individuals – accountable for having poorly established E&C programs.

The new solution enables E&C leaders to regularly and intentionally assess the organization’s ethical culture through a flexible combination of comprehensive surveys and sorter pulse checks, measuring 10 key dimensions and using a market-tested series of questions. The data is visualized through on-demand reporting and analytics, providing E&C leaders with insight into their culture through summary and detailed results, employee demographic gap analysis and heat maps, industry benchmarks and detailed recommendations for how to respond to the results.

Both solutions are available now, and E&C leaders and managers can sign up online for a demo of Smart Code and E&C Culture Assessment.

IOT ROAMING SURPASSES 600 MLN BY 2028 - JUNIPER RESEARCH

Juniper Research Competitor Leaderboard for IoT Roaming (Graphic: Business Wire)

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) – There will be over 600 million roaming Internet of Things (IoT) connections by 2028; rising from 145 million in 2023, according to a new study by Juniper Research.

In a statement, Juniper Research said this will necessitate the implementation of new roaming standards to detect and monetise IoT roaming.

To capitalise on this substantial growth in connections, the report identified Billing & Charging Evolution (BCE) as a critical technology that will enable operators to identify new roaming connections. In turn, this will allow operators to fully maximise inbound roaming revenue.

The research suite included the latest edition of Juniper Research’s Competitor Leaderboard covering the IoT roaming market. It analysed the comprehensiveness of offerings across 18 key IoT roaming vendors, as well as the innovation and future prospects of vendors.

The top five vendors are Vodafone Roaming Services, Telefónica, Tata Communications, TNS and BICS.

Vodafone Roaming Services’ continued expansion of its global IoT roaming network results in the company retaining its market-leading position.

Its comprehensive portfolio of IoT management solutions and significant coverage places the company as the leading IoT vendor to enable operators to maximise future inbound roaming revenue.

Meanwhile, Telefónica has moved up six spots in the ranking. Crucial in driving Telefónica’s progress in the IoT roaming market over the last year has been its innovation with solutions that simplify the roaming monetisation process.

Juniper Research has, for two decades, provided market intelligence and advisory services to the global telecommunications sector, retained by many of the world’s leading network operators and communications platforms.
